Corey DooleyJohnson is the founder of CommunityCorey. He is a Chicago-based artist, community organizer, and creative entrepreneur whose work centers love, healing, and collective storytelling. A survivor of gun and domestic violence, Corey uses art as a form of therapy and economic justice, creating work that invites reflection, connection, and resilience.
Corey is known for his signature heart-headed characters—faceless figures designed to be universally relatable across race, age, and identity. His practice spans murals and digital design, often intersecting with youth engagement, literacy, and public art.
Corey is the author of Lil Shorty Love and Lil Shorty Color, a children’s book and companion coloring book that are family-friendly. Corey is also the founder of HeArtWork by DOJO, a creative brand producing artwork, books, and community-centered products.
Corey has exhibited and sold work in cultural markets and public venues including Navy Pier and was a participant in the 2025 Navy Pier Small Business Accelerator Program.
